Class, the notion of emotional intelligence is a rather new concept in the study of interpersonal dynamics in organizations. I recently read a book called "My Stroke of Insight" about a 36 year old woman, Jill Bolte Taylor Ph.D, who suffered a stroke then spent eight years regaining full mental capabilities, which is very unusual. She is a Harvard trained brain scientist describing her experiences. Two chapters are meant to explain the brain to lay people. One point she makes is that most people think humans are thinking beings with emotions. However, she makes a point to say that we are actually emotional beings with the ability to think. The notion of emotions is a theme you will see in this course. It is one that I emphasize in my marketing classes.

2. Think about a professional experience where you can see where one element of emotional intelligences was missing.
